Research and Innovation Coordination Group (RICG)

The UIC Research and Innovation Coordination Group (RICG) is a pan-European UIC stakeholder group for research and innovation in the railway sector that includes both UIC members from the European Union (EU) as well as non-EU countries (non-EU). UIC RICG actively contributes to the European Rail Research Advisory Council (ERRAC), which is an EU body, and represents the position of UIC members in important debates and activities concerning R&I in the rail sector, for the sustainable development of European transport.

Overview

Research and Innovation Coordination Group (RICG), currently operates under two working groups:

  • RICG WG1 “Policy and Strategy”
  • RICG WG2 “Coordination and Advocacy”

The objectives and strategic directions of the RICG, however, are determined by the

  • RICG Plenary
  • RICG Steering Committee

Mission

RICG’s mission is to support infrastructure managers (IMs) and railway undertakings (RUs) – who are members of the UIC – in developing an evidence-based strategic vision for railway development and prioritising appropriate actions in the field of railway research and innovation. RICG then promotes this vision in the ongoing debate on research and innovation funding and implementation, drawing on current and future R&D+I activities within the European Union.

For this purpose, the RICG has produced a new edition of the ‘Future capabilities of the European Railway System’ document, available free of charge from the UIC shop and downloadable here.

The RICG also represents the voice of UIC members at the level of the European Railway Research Advisory Council (ERRAC) – The European Union Railway Technology Platform (ETP).

Contact

We invite all European UIC Members to participate in these working groups.
