Since the beginning of the current health crisis, UIC has been working on providing its members and partners with a series of concrete measures and best practice for the railway sector.

In March, the UIC Covid-19 Task Force composed of railway stakeholders from Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Oceania and the Americas produced a first set of guidelines on the management of Covid-19 (see eNews 683 https://uic.org/com/uic-e-news/683/) with the help of contributions from railway companies around the world. This initiative has enabled UIC members and fellow transport organisations to share information and knowledge in order to help manage the global response to Covid-19.

This second guidance document looks beyond the crisis and focuses on potential measures to restore customer confidence in rail travel after the pandemic. The main themes cover Concrete measures to reduce the risk of spreading infection, Communications measures to reassure the public, as well as Future research.

Moreover, the Task Force is currently working on a third document, entitled RAILsilience: How the rail sector is fighting Covid-19. All the latest developments regarding this latest guidance will of course be shared in the near future so stay connected!
