The International Railway Solution IRS 75718 – Noise on Parked Trains, developed under the NOVITÀ project, has been recognised in the Proficiently Developed category of the Excellence in Railway Publications Awards.

Noise in urban areas represents an increasingly significant challenge for the rail sector. This new international guideline offers a harmonised and practical framework for measuring and reporting noise generated by parked trains. By providing consistent assessment methodologies, the IRS supports railway undertakings (RUs), infrastructure managers (IMs), and acoustic consultants in the effective application of ISO 3095 and the enhancement of noise management practices.

The comprehensive appendices further assist stakeholders in aligning data collection and reporting processes with the needs of RUs and IMs, helping them to be better neighbours within urban communities.

Moreover, IRS 75718 contributes to the ongoing dialogue on noise limit values for rolling stock, anticipating future updates to the European Technical Specification for Interoperability relating to noise (NOI TSI). The harmonised data collection and analysis facilitated by this IRS can provide quantitative evidence to inform and support discussions surrounding forthcoming regulatory developments in Europe.

This achievement reflects the collaborative effort of the 22 NOVITÀ project partners and technical experts from the UIC Noise and Vibration Sector, whose joint efforts have helped make progress in the understanding and management of railway noise worldwide.

A warm thank you goes to all NOVITÀ project members for their valuable contribution and continued commitment to innovation and excellence.
