A memorandum of cooperation on projects to be developed on the Kyrgyz Republic’s rail network was concluded in the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, on 28 March 2019.
The document was signed by Yevgeny Dietrich, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Oleg Belozerov, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of OJSC Russian Railways, Zhanat Beishenov, Minister of Transport and Roads of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Kanatbek Abdykerimov, Managing Director of State Enterprise National Company Kyrgyz Temir Jolu (Kyrgyz Railways).
The memorandum notes positive developments and effective joint actions to develop a preliminary feasibility study for projects for the phased development of the rail network in the Kyrgyz Republic, particularly the completion of the first stage of documentation in February this year.
The document indicates that construction of a China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway line and a railway junction linking Kyrgyzstan’s northern and southern regions are amongst the projects being considered.
According to the results of the preliminary feasibility study, the parties intend to submit proposals for participation in projects to develop Kyrgyzstan’s rail network.
