This study will be conducted in the context of the EU project IMPROVER: Improved risk evaluation and implementation of resilience concepts to critical infrastructure (www.improverproject.eu). It explores how information shared via social media can help reduce response and recovery times and raise awareness about the risk of future disasters.
One year after the Paris terrorist attacks of 13 November 2015, UIC in collaboration with the University of Sheffield and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC-CSEM) invites you to take part in a study entitled “Explore the role of social media in building community resilience” and focusing on the Paris terrorist attacks.
Call for Participants
The study involves the use of focus groups to explore perspectives on how key stakeholders employed social media during the Paris terrorist attack dated 13 November 2015. The key stakeholders (target participants) involve: community representatives and community leaders, critical infrastructure operators, professional journalists, and agencies involved in emergency management.
There are two ways to participate in this study:
- Focus groups: You are invited on 10 January 2017 to the International Union of Railways (UIC) Headquarters, 16 rue Jean Rey, Paris 75015, France. The focus group will be held from 9:30 to 14:30, including an optional lunch. Reasonable travel expenses will be refunded. The agenda and registration form can be found on the website (http://events.uic.org/improver-interviews-and-focus-groups).
- Interviews: If you are unable to physically participate in the focus groups on 10 January 2017, we can provide a computer-mediated option (Skype, telephone, or email interview). You can indicate your availability for a remote individual interview in the last field of the online registration form.
