As announced in the last issue of “UIC eNews”, UIC will have the honour to host a high-level reception in New York on 11 May, in connection with the 19th session of the UN Commission for Sustainable Development (UN CSD), which will discuss sustainable development in the transportation sector.

Members of the national delegations attending the UN CSD talks (53 countries taking part); UN officials, and UIC members will be invited. This is a unique opportunity for UIC to promote the rail sector’s achievements on sustainable development and its environmental advantages both to UN stakeholders and national government officials.

UIC will demonstrate rail’s commitment to be at the heart of sustainable transport systems, highlight the progress of the UIC Declaration on Sustainable Development, which has now more than 40 signatures, and will launch a new brochure on Rail and Sustainable Development.

UIC Director General Jean-Pierre Loubinoux will host the reception and welcome the participants, followed by short statements from senior UN officials, CSD delegates and senior directors of railway organisations around the world.
